The Late Alick Lihuhu

The Malawi football fraternity is gripped with sadness as one of the celebrated footballers dies after a short illness.Tributes have poured in from football fans and other concerned Malawians all over the world.

Alick Lihuhu aged 32, a former Flames midfielder died on Thursday morning, July 25th, 2013 at Mchinji District Hospital after a short illness. It is reported that Lihuhu went to Mozambique to attend trials in the hope of securing a deal to play for the Mozambican side. However, it was while he was there that he was  sent back home, to receive treatment after falling ill complaining of headache and opening bowels. He was admitted at Mchinji district hospital where he sadly died.

Writing on Nyasatimes where the story was first broken, one reader named James wrote  “RIP the country has lost a player “  , This was echoed by another who said “may the soul of Alick my favourite player rest in peace”

Other tributes poured on the social networking site Facebook with one Wedson Mwale saying  “RIP my best friend in soccer Lihuhu…will miss u bro…may Lord guide your journey”.Even Pamtengo Radio DJs Amos”Amophi” Phiri and Chalo “Banton” Mvula could not hide their sadness when they were discussing his death on the sports section of the Drive Time Show on the radio. Amophi concluded that this was indeed a sad development for every Malawian.

In his career Alick Lihuhu played for these clubs Tigers FC, Escom United, Big Bullets, Mighty Wanderers and Civo United including a short stint with Malawi national team before trekking to Mozambique
