Paula Vennells faces final day of evidence at Post Office inquiry
Former Post Office boss Paula Vennells has arrived at the Horizon IT inquiry for a final day of questioning.
Over the last two days, she has tearfully admitted to making a false statement to MPs and said she “possibly” hoped that a mediation scheme with sub-postmasters would “minimise compensation”.
However, Ms Vennells answered countless questions with “I don’t recall” and “I don’t remember” – despite her position as chief executive of the Post Office for seven years.
The scandal – which has been dubbed the UK’s most widespread miscarriage of justice – saw hundreds of sub-postmasters prosecuted wrongly by the Post Office between 1999 and 2015.
