Everton vs Chelsea FC LIVE! Premier League
A first-half penalty from Italy midfielder Jorginho was enough to earn Chelsea a 1-0 win at Everton on Saturday to get their new Premier League campaign off to a positive start.
Chelsea peppered the home goal with 13 corners in the first half but looked set to be frustrated as the interval approached, only for Jorginho to convert from the spot after Ben Chilwell has been fouled to give the visitors the lead.
A brilliant save from Edouard Mendy early in the second half to deny Abdoulaye Doucoure preserved Chelsea’s advantage, and that was as good as it got for a disappointing Everton, who only survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last term.
England forward Raheem Sterling could have marked an impressive debut with a late second but saw his close-range effort deflected just wide.
It mattered little as Chelsea, following a close season of upheaval after the sale of the club to an investment group led by LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly, saw out the three points with ease.

What we learned
Jorginho proved the match winner as Chelsea opened with a win under in the new Boehly-Clearlake era but it was the new signings that really shone away at Everton.
The Italy international scored a penalty with almost the final kick of the first half after Ben Chilwell was rightly judged to have been brought down by Abdoulaye Doucoure.
But the Blues found themselves very much reliant on their new signings right away with Kalidou Koulibaly’s surging run and pass to Chilwell creating panic in the Evertonian backline.

Jorginho won the match right at the end of first half stoppage time after Ben Chilwell was adjudged to have been fouled in the box by Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Raheem Sterling was bright on his debut and Kalidou Koulibaly reasonably solid, with Marc Cucurella coming off the bench for the last 30 minutes, just a day after joining Chelsea.

Full match report
Chelsea got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start away at Everton, albeit in fairly unconvincing fashion.
The feeling at the club last season was that the injuries to Ben Chilwell and Reece James towards the end of the year was one of the major reasons Tuchel saw his title challenge collapse. At their worst in the period after that, Chelsea all too often looked one-paced, much as they did for large parts of the first-half on Merseyside.

Chelsea have been seeing the game out calmly but a 1-0 lead at Goodison Park with so long left is not exactly ideal.
