Squid Game actor Lee Jung-jae signs up to star in upcoming Star Wars series


quid Game star Lee Jung-jae has an exciting new gig lined up following his global streaming hit last year.

According to Deadline, Jung-iae, 49, is set to star in Disney+’s new Star Wars series The Acolyte as the show’s male lead.

The South Korean actor became a global star when he featured in Netflix’s Squid Game last October.

Disney+’s new Stars Wars series will focus on the dark side of the Force’s rise to power, across the last days of the High Republic era of the film’s franchise.

Details on Jung-jae’s role in the series has yet to be shared, however more information is expected to be revealed in a matter of weeks, along with an upcoming release date.

The series is directed and written by Leslye Headlund, whose previous work includes Netlfix show Russian Doll, and Jung-jae will star alongside The Hate U Give actress Amandla Stenberg who is the announced female lead.

This news follows reports that actress Jodie Turner-Smith, who recently attended the premiere of her new film White Noise at the Venice Film Festival, is to star in the new Star Wars series also, though this has not been confirmed.

Jung-jae’s latest casting comes after he made his directorial and screenwriting debut with new film Hunt, about two National Intelligence Service agents in pursuit of a head of North Korean spies infiltrating the country.

Hunt is scheduled to be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Gala Presentations section as TIFF takes places from September 8 to 18.

Jung-jae’s project is one of five Korean films at the presentation.
