Transfer news LIVE! Chelsea FC near Cucurella; Mourinho ‘blocks’ Zaniolo to Tottenham; Arsenal gossip; De Jong latest

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are all out to bag major deals in the final month of the transfer window. Having all secured some big-name players already, the likes of Marc Cucurella, Frenkie de Jong, Youri Tielemans and Nicolo Zaniolo are the latest potential signings being discussed.

All three teams are looking at Leicester for potential market inspiration with Wesley Fofana a Chelsea target as Thomas Tuchel looks to sort his defence after a number of setbacks. He is likely to cost in the region of £80m, while the Blues are also reportedly preparing an “imminent” £71m bid for De Jong. The Blues are also in talks with Brighton over a move for Marc Cucurella as well as RB Leipzig over Josko Gvardiol.

In north London, Foxes playmaker Tielemans remains a target for Arsenal. Lucas Paqueta and Cody Gakpo also remain of interest to Mikel Arteta. Tottenham, meanwhile, are linked with James Maddison, though reports in Italy suggest Jose Mourinho has blocked a move for Zaniolo.

Werner to Leipzig talks continue

Chelsea are in talks with RB Leipzig over a potential move for Timo Werner to return to his former club on loan, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

Chelsea would have to cover a portion of his wages or ask the German to reduce his salary to move back to the Bundesliga.

Those are the basis of the talks with Leipzig, having rejected a swap deal involving Werner for their star defender Josko Gvardiol.

Juventus and Newcastle have enquired about a possible move for Werner but Leipzig are favourites to sign him.

Laporta sets out timetable

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says the club must register their squad for the new season by August 13, handing Manchester United a deadline to sign Frenkie de Jong.

A fee has reportedly been agreed with Barcelona for around £65million, but the player continues to be unconvinced by a move to Old Trafford.

Barca, though, remain in financial difficulty despite splashing out on the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde, so it is understood they would welcome selling De Jong to help balance the books and, therefore, be able to register their new signings.

Speaking at Kounde’s unveiling, Laporta said: “We are doing everything possible to register the signings. We have to do it before August 13.”

Cucurella open to Chelsea move

Chelsea are accelerating talks to sign Brighton full-back Marc Cucurella for around £50million, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

Cucurella has been angling for a move to Manchester City all summer but they refused to meet Brighton’s valuation for the Spaniard, which opened the door for Chelsea.

Talks will continue this week but Cucurella is thought to be open to a move to Stamford Bridge and Brighton are willing to sell him if their asking price is met.

Mourinho blocks Zaniolo talks

Jose Mourinho has reportedly blocked any negotiations for Nicolo Zaniolo after Tottenham’s latest approach for the Roma player.

Zaniolo continues to be linked with a move to Spurs, but Il Romanista claim that the Roma boss wants to keep him at the club and has no desire to sell.

It remains to be seen whether that leads to Tottenham turning their focus elsewhere, potentially to Leicester’s James Maddison.

Abraham happy in Italy

Tammy Abraham has insisted his long-term future remains with Roma after a successful first season with the Italian club.

A rumoured £67m buy-back clause is available for Chelsea to re-sign Abraham, with Arsenal also linked in recent months, but the player has outlined his intention to stay in Serie A.

“No,” he told Corriere dello Sport on whether he is contemplating a return to England. “The first day I arrived at Roma I felt at home.

“I’m in no rush to return to the Premier League because here I can express my way of playing. In Italy I feel happy in every respect.”

Masuaku nears Besiktas move

West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku is set to join Besiktas on loan, with David Moyes pushing to sign a left-back replacement. writes Malik Ouzia.

Masuaku, who joined the Hammers from Olympiacos in 2016, could be unveiled by the Turkish club as soon as Tuesday evening, with the deal including an option to make the switch permanent at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old made only six Premier League starts last term and would slip further down the pecking order should Moyes succeed in bringing in competition for Aaron Cresswell.

The Hammers have been in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a deal for their No1 target, Serbian wing-back Filip Kostic, and are willing to meet the German club’s asking price – but convincing the player to make the move is proving more difficult.

James Maddison would prefer a move to Arsenal or Tottenham over Newcastle.
